ExampleExample only. Write your own in Admin → Destinations → Croatia → Cost → Intro.

A week on a crewed yacht in Croatia usually costs between €10,000 and €30,000 for the charter fee, depending on the yacht and the month. Most yachts add an APA for food, fuel and marinas, usually 20 to 40% of the fee, and some have none. VAT is included in the price on some yachts and added on others, so check each yacht card. A crew tip of 10 to 15% is usual.

APA, VAT and Crew Tips Explained

  • APA:

The Advance Provisioning Allowance is paid on top of the charter fee and covers running costs during your week, such as fuel, marina and mooring fees, food and drinks. It is usually between 20% and 40% of the charter fee, depending on the yacht, and anything you don’t spend is returned at the end of the charter. Some yachts have no APA. Each yacht card shows its APA.

  • VAT:

Some yachts are priced with VAT included, others without, in which case VAT is added to the charter fee. Each yacht card says which applies, and your contract shows the final amount.

  • Crew tip:

Tipping the crew at the end of the week is customary and up to you. The Captain can tell you what is usual for your yacht.

Where to Charter a Yacht in Croatia

With over 1,200 islands, isles and inlets, choosing where to go in Croatia can be challenging, but luckily a yacht charter in Croatia will allow you to visit many places in a short period of time, even secluded ones, while still leaving you enough time to relax and enjoy the views.

Hvar is not only Croatia’s trendiest island, but also the longest and sunniest. Hvar’s Old Town is known for its ancient landmarks, lively bays and legendary nightlife scene. Brač, the largest island in central Dalmatia, is mostly famous for its magnificent Zlatni Rat beach (aka Croatia’s most iconic and photographed beach) and its radiant white stone. The island of Korčula is a spot that has hardly changed since its most well-known citizen, Marco Polo, set out on his voyages to the East. Korčula’s many treasures hide behind a tiny medieval-walled peninsula. Vis is Croatia’s most distant and isolated island; this isolation and lack of development has become Vis’ drawcard as a travel destination. Mostly international travelers now come to Vis for its picture-postcard Mediterranean beauty, its ancient ruins and deserted beaches, as well as its gourmet delights.

Maestral, Bura and Jugo: Croatia’s Sailing Winds

Summer in Croatia is hot and dry, with average air temperatures of 28 °C and sea temperatures of 24 °C, which makes a boat holiday just perfect.

During the summer the most common winds in Croatia are the Bura and the Maestral. Sailing conditions are ideal, with wind averaging 10–20 knots and moderate to small waves. In spring and autumn the Jugo, a warm and humid south-easterly, can bring cloud, rain and bigger waves for a day or two.

Crewed, Skippered or Bareboat Charter: What’s the Difference

On a crewed charter in Croatia the yacht comes with a professional Captain and usually a host who cooks, so nobody in your group needs to sail. A skippered charter adds a hired sailor to run the yacht, but you shop and cook yourselves. On a bareboat charter you sail the yacht yourselves and need a licence.

ExampleExample only. Write yours in Admin → Destinations → Croatia → Yacht Chooser → Licence Note. This is a legal answer: write only what you know is true.

Do You Need a Licence to Charter a Yacht in Croatia?

No. On a crewed charter in Croatia the Captain holds the licence and is responsible for the yacht, so none of your guests needs a sailing licence or any experience. A licence and a VHF radio certificate are needed only if you charter bareboat and sail the yacht yourselves.

Croatia Yacht Charter FAQ

What is a crewed yacht charter in Croatia?

A crewed yacht charter in Croatia means you charter a yacht with a professional Captain, and usually a host or chef, who sail, cook and look after the yacht. You choose the islands and the pace; the crew handle navigation, mooring and meals, so nobody in your group needs sailing experience.

How do I book a crewed yacht charter in Croatia?

Start with a free 45-minute video call with the Captain. Tell him your dates, group size, budget and the kind of week you want, and within 24 hours you get a hand-picked shortlist of yachts. You pay the same price as booking direct, and the contract and payment go to the licensed charter operator.

What types of yachts are available for charter in Croatia?

The yachts available for charter in Croatia range from luxury motor yachts to comfortable sailboats, motor boats, catamarans and traditional gulets, accommodating different group sizes and preferences.

Which crewed yacht suits our group: a catamaran, a gulet or a motor yacht?

Catamarans suit families who want space and stability, gulets suit larger groups who want room to spread out, and motor yachts cover more islands in less time. Sailing yachts suit couples and small groups who enjoy the feel of sailing. The Captain helps you choose on the free call.

Do I need a licence for a crewed yacht charter in Croatia?

No. On a crewed charter the Captain holds the licences and is responsible for the yacht, so no one in your group needs a sailing licence or experience. A licence is only needed on a bareboat charter, where you sail the yacht yourselves.

What are the best destinations for sailing in Croatia?

Croatia offers many spectacular sailing destinations, including the Dalmatian Coast, Hvar, Split, the Kornati Islands and the island of Vis, each with its own unique charm and attractions.

When is the best time to yacht charter in Croatia?

Croatia’s sailing season is generally from May to October, with the peak season from June to August, when the weather is warmer and the seas calmer.

What is included when chartering a yacht in Croatia?

Yacht charter packages vary, but often include yacht charter, a professional crew (if desired), safety equipment, navigational aids, and sometimes extras like water toys and Wi-Fi.

Can we choose our own route on a crewed yacht charter in Croatia?

Yes. Tell the Captain which islands, beaches, restaurants and activities you want, such as snorkelling, swimming stops or exploring old towns, and he plans the route around your wishes and the weather. The route stays flexible during the week.

Are there any additional costs associated with yacht charter in Croatia?

Additional costs may include fuel, mooring fees, supplies, tourist taxes and optional extras such as meals on board, excursions and water sports equipment hire.

What happens on the free call with the Captain?

On the free 45-minute video call, the Captain asks about your group, dates, budget and the kind of week you want, and answers your questions about yachts, routes and costs. Within 24 hours you get a hand-picked shortlist of yachts, at the same price as booking direct.
